One of the oldest churches in Goa is the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Its construction started in 1594 and was completed in 1605 by Archbishop Dom Father Alenio de Menezes. It is a UNESCO declared world heritage site where the mortal remains of the Parton Saint of Goa Saint Francis Xavier can be found. The feast of St. Francis Xavier is celebrated every year on 3rd December.
Se Cathedral Church
This church is located in Old Goa. It was constructed in honor of the victory of Afonso de Albuquerque over the Muslim army. Since victory was achieved on the feast of Saint Catherine, the cathedral was built in her honor. The architecture of this cathedral is Portuguese-Manueline, the exterior and interior are Tuscan and Corinthian, respectively.
Mangeshi Temple
Mangeshi Temple is located at Mangeshi Village in Priol, Pondtalu. It is at a distance of 21 km from Panaji. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lord Mangueshi is recognized as Lord Shiva only in Goa. The original location where the temple was built is presently the location of village Cortalim. The Portuguese destroyed this temple when Salcate was added to its territory.
Shanta Durga Temple/ Tirupati Balaji Temple
It is at a distance of 30 kilometers from Panaji. It is a privately owned temple complex that belongs to the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community. This temple is one of the famous attractions in Goa. It is dedicated to Goddess Shree Durga.
